Aur phir wo boli, “Ha Mai Empowered hu!”!

What do I tell you about mumma hain? I toh have already declared that budhape ka saya is all over her and now she really needs to leave everything and devote herself to pooja-path! Now yesterday she told me Nimmi Aunty’s aughter escaped from the house because they wanted to marry her off, I really felt so bad so bad, do din baad parlour ka appointment tha facial toh kara ke bhagti hai na? Khair all that mumma cared about is chaar logo k beech me naak kata di! Ohh I really don’t understand this concept of naak katana bhai…khair I thought it’s her budhapa speaking so let her keep whining and I’ll rather concentrate on sasural simar ka ( Oh did I tell you I’ve started watching it?  And it is quite interesting waise)

While we were taking a walk in the evening Tinkai told me Nimmi aunty’s daughter ran away because she got a job in Hyderabad and her parents were forcing her not to take it up and rather get married and basaoo apna ghar! Khair I think it’s perfectly fine to get married and udao pati ka paisa rather than do so much mehnat all day and get salary wo bhi pati se kam. Kam hi toh hoti hai, zada hogi toh you’ll have to divorce your pati na! Khair I did not say this to Tinkai, bhai she is very feminist types, likes to give lectures on empowerment and all, waise I think she has become feminist because she does not have a boyfriend, once she starts dating I think she will be okay. Guddu bhaiyya humesha kehte hai, feminism is for the single/fat/ugly/over-qualified women!

Bhai waise bhi aj kal only doing a job and having own house, own car and good bank balance does not mean you are empowered; a true empowered woman has to walk nude on the roads with placards advocating her action. The identity of an empowered women is not limited to being completely independent and on her own bhai, humari generation me an empowered woman must at least do gaali galauj, have tattoos, drink alcohol, must be liberated enough to smoke in front of the society and not chup chup ke and most important, she should not be  a virgin! Now if you are only running away from your home, escaping a marriage to take up a job that pays off 60,000 a month how is that empowerment? Bhaisahab women empowerment is much more than being able to communicate well with people, see the society respect you, give your children a better lifestyle, and maybe support your papa/pati at times of adversity.

Tinkai was telling me that many of her classmates attended the slut walk organized by femen last year; she thinks it helped in liberating women from a lot of shackles that the society imposes on them. I think the biggest shackle that was removed was to wear undergarments! I wonder what if the men also say they want to walk like that on the road, haaye haaye aise blooming monkey jaise! How sexist no? But bhai when this is sexist how is it justified for women to do so and how is it remotely feminist? I think these feminist women have also grown old like mumma, not clear in their own thoughts only!

Really papa told me feminists ne society k liye bohot kuch kiya hai but new era feminism toh mere samjh me nahi aati, kahi na kahi we have all forgotten to respect those women who started all this, rather than respecting humare ghar ki aurate like mumma, dadi or maybe suman (house maid – ha fir badalni padi, purani wali bohot chutti karti thi!) we advocate going nude, consuming liquor and smoke, not by our choice but because we want to prove that we are empowered! Empowerment dekhni hai toh kabhi mere office aao, male staff se zada female staff hai, boss bhi female hai, she keeps a check ki jb appraisal aaye toh sbko equal mile on the basis of performance! Empowerment Is not about feminism or masculinity, not about the west or the east, it’s not about being free or being jailed, its only about equality for every individual irrespective of their cast creed scale gender! Women empowerment is the new trending issue of the state just as empowerment of the scheduled cast was at the time of Gandhi, the issue is that somehow people do change and their mindsets elevate but the possibilities of understanding the change, as in to understand WHY THE CHANGE is very meagre. It should be about empowerment not stupidity maybe equality rather…I think the country is changing finally, society bhi badal rahi hai aur mindset bhi I know abhi aur bohot scope hai change ka and kafi cheeze sudhri nahi hai magar fir bhi sheher me nude ghumne se rape hone band toh nahi ho jayenge na? Rather than looking for the positive and work towards it, hum culture bhi badalna chahte hai. Wo bhi thik hai but at least if we really want to change we must change it for good!

Khair jo bhi ho I still think Nimmi aunty ki beti should not have escaped aise, acha khasa kamau pati nahi chorna chahiye, bechara! Aur bhagi toh bhagi, VLCC wala voucher mujhe deke jati!! -_-

  1. Well written & Agreed!
But smoking, drinking or making tattoo’s is not necessarily a demonstration of women empowerment…it’s the society that perceives it as a taboo for Indian women and when we talk about equality then she must have an equal right to do as she pleases.
